This involves lot of other wild stuff like Stephanie and Sean having sex on the day of Emily's funeral (yes, this movie involves two inappropriate funeral hookups), "Emily" showing up dead in a lake, and the reveal that Stephanie's brother is really her son's father. finally arrives.
First of all, Emily has a secret twin, Emily's real name isn't even Emily (I'll keep calling her that for convenience sake), and Emily drowns her twin when the twin tries to extort her.
Against their better judgment, Stephanie and Sean start hooking up, which makes Emily furious as she watches (somehow) from afar.

Now, this is where the twists get a little hairy because even though Emily says they’re broke, they still seem to live quite nicely. exec who up and disappears one day.
Soon, though, Emily goes missing and Stephanie ends up becoming an investigator to track her down. When Emily disappears, suspicion first falls on her husband, Sean, a charming but reserved British businessman who works on Wall Street. Stephanie and Emily become friends and exchange secrets, like the fact that Emily and Sean had a threesome with his teaching assistant, and that Stephanie had sex with her half-brother on the day of their father's funeral. But the secret twist moral is one should never cross a mommy vlogger!
It seems like Emily and Stephanie are going to start working together after Emily backs Stephanie into a corner and tries to con her into thinking Sean is the bad guy.
Text then appears on screen that lets us know Stephanie has helped hunt down 30 criminals, Sean has moved with his son to California and teaches at UC Berkeley, and Emily is serving a 20-year prison sentence. Once Emily disappears, Stephanie starts digging and, … Sean is forced to leave the country and all seems well — until the cops find Emily's one-of-a-kind ring in the wreckage of the insurance man's car. A Simple Favor is released on Sept. 14 — we'll just have to wait and see! There's Emily giving herself a black eye with a wrench. During this time, Stephanie and Sean grow closer — at first because Stephanie is trying to help with Emily and Sean's son, but it eventually blooms into a full-on affair. It’s because she’s not going along with it. There’s no shortage of twists and turns in the Blake Lively-Anna Kendrick thriller, directed by Paul Feig.
Will there be any further twists? (Rannells plays one of the other parents from the kids' school and is a viewer of Stephanie's vlog.) But when it’s time to meet, Hope doesn’t show up.

For the first half of the movie, it’s just that—a straight-faced drama about a missing woman, peppered with twinges of dark humor. . The pair has a martini-drenched tête-à-tête at Emily’s (or shall we say “Emily’s”) gravesite, agreeing to a new plan: now, Emily will return to town and tell the police it was actually her twin who died (but, you know, not by murder).
