Art and artifacts from the GDR. It was great reading about how the men coped with all the mayhem in their lives. Another side to modern day warfare. The photos, the text all transport the viewer to a far distant time and give you an entirely new take on what it was like during the quiet times between fighting. To help bolster troops against the horrors of combat, commanders encouraged them to form tight “buddy” relationships for emotional support. I collect photography books and this is one of my new top favorites.
