The only real problem is that the authors do not really take the time to develop a clear set of suspects with motives, reflecting that there is not much opportunity for misdirection for readers. I loved it! Young Ellery Queen finds himself in a social situation with a family involved in publishing, stamp collection, and the collecting of antique jewelry. Well written great fun.
"What fun!"

They are tighter and better written, same dialog and puzzles but without the padding. The evening is something of a comeback performance for him and there is talk that if it proves successful it may lead to his return to the silver screen. It has been a long while since I have read any Queen. This particular novel was neither better nor worse than I expected.

The following month, Ericsson acquired Canada’s TimelessMind, a consulting firm specialising in operations and business support (OSS/BSS). The story is one of the most colorful and lively of these early Queen tales and I am hoping that its relative tightness and evocative action bodes well for my experiences with subsequent installments.
Happily this does not repeat the mistakes of that story, in part because it is so much clearer why the murder weapon is such a point of interest but mostly because the authors decide not to describe every step of the search.
The mission's rover, Yutu-2, stumbled on that surprise during lunar day 8.
Tracks made by Yutu-2 while navigating hazards during lunar day 8, which occurred during late July and early August 2019.
I have liked some parts of the books and can see the elements of the character and the approach to mystery construction that have appeal and yet I found elements of the execution in most of the stories frustrating. Follow Andrew Jones at @AJ_FI. The rover examined both areas with its Visible and Near-Infrared Spectrometer (VNIS), which detects light that is scattered or reflected off materials to reveal their makeup. The vanishing gun perhaps goes a little too far towards developing an exciting incident without setting it up entirely but I would rather be baffled by a fantastic development than bored by static investigation. Yeah, that put me off a bit too but you’re right – this is so much better, even if the payoff proves just as unsatisfying. Nothing bad, mind you, but just the sort of stuff that keeps me from finding time to read.
The first thing to realize is that this novel is nearly 80 years old (1934).
Thank you for signing up to Space. Once the reader gets on the right train of thought (and I think something we learn early in the investigation is likely to stand out to many seasoned detective fiction fans) there is really little here to divert readers from those suspicions. Given that, what better way could there be to relaunch the blog than with another installment in my long-running series in which I read the Ellery Queen stories in order. Join our Space Forums to keep talking space on the latest missions, night sky and more! In fact, I’d say most of Queen is rather wonderful!
I see why it’s an American detective series! Language . Also, Siamese Twin is genuinely one of the greatest mysteries ever so things are likely to get better! I used to, the Period 1 stuff, and a few of the later ones.

I’d put it at fourth, only behind Greek, Siamese and French (Another EQ Classic JJ underappreciates).

I found the contrast between this book and the first, Roman Hat Mystery, interesting. “The story is one of the most colorful and lively of these early Queen tales…”. If you ignore the cheat it is a really readable book – certainly more entertaining in terms of the prose and characters than its predecessors. Chang'e-4 launched in early December 2018, and made the first-ever soft landing on the far side of the moon on Jan. 3. Ellery is in pretty good form though and I did appreciate that we get to spend a little more time here with Inspector Queen than we did in the previous installment in the series. Please refresh the page and try again. So, let’s talk about that solution because it is really only here that I have a significant issue with the story.
The Yutu-2 rover woke up at 8:42 p.m. EDT on Aug. 23 (00:42 GMT Aug. 24), and the lander followed the next day, at 8:10 p.m. (00:10 GMT). I mean, knowing me, I’ll read it and hate it, but this is the first time this doubt has actively formed in my mind.

Available from another library. I will look forward to Siamese and seeing how it fits in! As always the story is well written and the answer to the mystery is logical and well thought out. It’s still a flawed book, but at least shows Dannay and Lee getting a bit slicker as this murder puzzle stuff (though the essential complications remain — the final explanation of the how is…baffling, and there’s a gigantic problem with that scheme which no-one seems to admit). Shame about that end though…. I can’t wait for more! Egyptian Cross, we can agree, is dull, dull, good for forty pages, then dull again…maybe I’m never going to get the Queens.
The only reasonable thing is to read Siamese Twin at the earliest opportunity and go from there. Change ), You are commenting using your Google account.
I see why it’s an American detective series! In terms of the characterizations of the victim and suspects, I had no significant complaints. 5.0 out of 5 stars My review of The Chinese Orange Mystery. Day 8 started on July 25; Yutu-2 began navigating a path through an area littered with various small impact craters, with the help and planning of drivers at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center, according to a Yutu-2 'drive diary' published on Aug. 17 by the government-sanctioned Chinese-language publication Our Space, which focuses on space and science communication.

Strange orange soil was discovered on the moon by the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. Well, Aidan, you are not the only one who likes Egyptian Cross! An awesome book! One of the clearest examples of a fatal flaw in the plot of an otherwise excellent detective novel.
( Log Out / After wading through the leaden prose of the first three Queens, the breezy confidecne of Chinese Orange was a marked improvement, yeah. While this makes for an exciting opening for the story I must confess that I was a little concerned when I realized that it seemed likely we were headed for a repeat of the Ellery spends forever searching for an object problem that dragged down The Roman Hat Mystery.
