Unfortunately the fires from October made a lot of damages to the vegetation, so this lagoon is not so nice like in the other years. Leiria is one of Portugal’s internationally lesser known districts to those already familiar with Portugal’s Algarve but it’s an interesting province that provides to much in the way of culture, gastronomy and leisure to cover one holiday. Leiria is a district that excels itself in many aspects, it’s many beaches, it’s historical points of interest and architectural excellence of which 2 are Unesco world heritage sites and it’s extreme landscape ranging from it’s wild and beautiful sea shore to it’s large dunes and pine fields and the mountains of Serra d’Aire and Serra dos Candeeiros. You’ll find many restaurants where you can eat lobster or crab spider. In every post is a secret or an explanation about Leiria and Portugal. Osso da Baleia beach is a peaceful beach hidden behind the dunes. Nazare is set on a large beach which provides easy access to the sea and this made it a famous place for fishing. You can also buy stuff from the souvenir shops around town or visit the aquatic park.

If you’re coming from Aveiro, the best way to get to São Jacinto beach is taking the ferry that crosses Aveiro Lagoon. What the Portuguese will do is spent the afternoon on the beach and end the day they will cover themselves in the mud close to the spring, to wash it off in the spring, a perfectly relaxing way to perfect skin and a relaxing holiday! It’s a close drive to many great beaches and has some very nice gastronomy and accommodation. You can even buy some souvenirs, eat something in a coffee shop or restaurant or even taste the popcorn!
