I can read this book over and over again without ever getting bored. I read most of it in the dentist's waiting room.

Yet again, another laugh-out-loud collection of stories. A kids’ book but very fun. Nicholas panics! These French-language stories of small Nicholas accompanying his parents on various vacations, then enjoying a stint at a summer camp on the Normandy coast are perfect readings for intermediate students in French. Taglines I really recommend reading it! So I was very pleased to find this, to recognise the illustrations and pleased to learn there was a whole series of Nicholas tales. True, Nicholas is always in some kind of trouble and driving his parents crazy (usually Papa), but he is never deliberately disobe. Nicholas’s mother sent Alceste home and Nicholas was sad because they were having fun. Great fun (and also educational for me because of all his father's problems he got in). It does get a little repetitive in places and reads more like a serialization than a single book, with each chapter re-introducing the cast of characters, in case you've forgotten who you're reading about. In the second half, Nicholas is sent off to summer camp, where the thrills of swimming in the ocean, making new friends and getting lost in the woods more than compensate for the odd spot of homesickness.

March 1st 2008 I like Nicolas' stories, all the searching for reasons to fight among boys are fun, but in this book I miss the part about everyone being happy in the end. They are a lively beach gang of holidaymakers: the young glutton, Fructueux; the little Englishman with the heavy accent, Djodjo; the opinionated, Côme; the cry-baby, Crépin; the rich boy, Blaise, and the sweet girl, Isabelle. Even though there are at least 4 or 5 "Nicholas books" in the series (so far) this one is my favorite. Borrowed this for my kids but it's a book for adults, really. The family ends up going to the beach, there Nicholas meets a few boys where he becomes really good friends with. The first French book I've read in a long time - a timeless classic which I hope to read to my future children one day. I picked this up some time ago because René Goscinny is one of the creators of Astérix, which is one of my all-time favorite comics. In the first half of the book, we accompany Nicholas and his parents to a seaside vacation - unfortunately one where rain often stops play and the chicken fricasee in the hotel is abysmal! C'est vraiment merveilleux.

It well prepared me for a tougher read. I highly recommend this book! The fun is there as well as the humour, but not as much family dynamics and school fun as the others. This book was fantastic. I love reading these short chapters to evan, probably more than he likes to hear them! Welcome back. Between the beach and the hotel, with his friends and family, Nicholas is really going to enjoy a holiday to remember.

Maybe you should, Valérie Lemercier, Kad Merad, Dominique Lavanant, François-Xavier Demaison, Bouli Lanners, Mathéo Boisselier. Nicholas’ mother warned him that he shouldn’t give it to Nicholas and Alceste told her he brought it all on himself. I read the first two Nicholas tales when I was eight and had been trying to find some copies to read to my children... but couldn't recall the author or the titles.
Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised at how delightful this book was. It's the end of the school year. ''How sweet, those two. This time, the cranky grandmother has to come along; however, Nicolas' new friends are always around to lend a hand or to make things worse.

I especially like how his Dad is portrayed--check out the story in which he tries to make another ferry passenger seasick. Read it in french.

it's a kids book and it bothers me that it lacks quotation marks or dialogue markings it is just 'he said' 'she said' and then it just doesn't really say who is talking if the main character just decided to think for a bit. Both parents always argue of where to go, either the mountains or the beach. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Is this going to be the best summer ever? Maybe not my favourite of Le petite Nicolas adventures, but surely very summery! This book is about a family who goes on summer vacation.
