I was dismayed by this popular musical. Songs and musical numbers (all by Leigh and Darion) include "It's All the Same," "The Impossible Dream,". Based on the popular Broadway musical. historical opus. Don Quixote is a middle-aged gentleman from the region of La Mancha in central Spain. I've heard them sung before, but they never meant as much as they did in this movie. The acting is excellent as is the direction and writing. The music and lyrics are beautiful and inspiring. I found it to be excellent, with great performances from Peter O'Toole, Sophia Loren and, indeed, all the cast. That said, apart from the overused showstopper (The Impossible Dream), the songs are instantly forgettable.
